On This Day – March 12: The Goat and Ali B sink Crewe

On March 12 in City history…

1932: City’s hopes of winning the FA Cup were shattered when they lost 1-0 to Arsenal at Villa Park in the semi final. Despite an unbeaten run of four for City leading in, Arsenal won a tight match and would go on on to play Newcastle in the final.

2002: City swept aside Crewe Alexandra at Gretsy Road with a mesmeric display. Goals from Ali Bernarbia, Darren Huckerby and Shaun Goater saw the Blues run out comfortable 3-1 winners as the Keegan resurgence continued. City ended the season as winners of the First Division, scoring a record 108 goals and winning over neutrals with their exciting brand of football.

Happy Birthday: Tommy Clare (1865 – 1929), Bradley Wright-Phillips (31)
