On This Day – March 9: Bert Trautmann makes his 400th City appearance

On March 9 in City history…

1960: Despite City suffering a 3-2 defeat to Blackpool at Maine Road, it was a personal milestone for goalkeeper Bert Trautmann, who made his 400th appearance. Trautmann was already a hero to City fans, having playing on in the 1956 FA Cup final with a broken neck. The German, who passed away in 2013, will be eternally loved by the City faithful for his service to the club.

2014: A mere eight months after their FA Cup triumph over City at Wembley, Wigan again eliminated City from the competition and ended any hopes of a domestic treble. Goals from Jordi Gomez and James Perch gave the Latics, managed by former City legend Uwe Rosler, a dream afternoon at the Etihad.
