On This Day – March 6: City thrash Sheffield United at Maine Road

On March 6 in City history…

1976: Manchester City swept aside Sheffield United with an impressive 4-0 win in front of 33,510 fans. Goals from Asa Hartford, Joe Royle and Dennis Tueart gave the City fans a treat as they continued their march up the old Division One.

1999: City were held to a 0-0 draw by a stubborn Northampton Town at Maine Road. Despite being cheered on by 27,999 loyal fans while in the third level of English football, Joe Royle’s side were left frustrated as they dropped points against a beatable side.

Happy Birthday: Mick Horswill (63), Brian Gayle (51), Stephen Jordan (34)
