City 3-1 Everton: player ratings

WILLY CABALLERO – 7

Lacks the authority that Joe Hart has, but made some good saves, and his distribution is excellent. Deserves to play in the final.

PABLO ZABALETA – 7

He really is the man! Imperious in the tackle, and provides so much quality going forward. Gives Pellegrini a hard choice over whom his first choice right-back should be.

NICOLAS OTAMENDI – 6

Made some excellent sliding tackles, but was too often bullied by Lukaku. He was also at fault for the Everton goal, and has to learn to stay on his feet more. As somebody who rates Otamendi as a world class defender, you can’t make those level of mistakes in a game of such magnitude.

MARTIN DEMICHELIS – 6

Was exposed a couple of times by the pace of Deulofeu, but his experience was vital. Brings so much leadership to the side, and his ability to play the ball out from the back is crucial.

GAEL CLICHY – 7

An impressive performance. Shackled Deulofeu very well, allowing him very little time on the ball. Lacks the offensive capabilities that Kolarov provides, but he’s an excellent defender.

FABIAN DELPH – 6

A subpar showing from Delph. Yes there was energy and tenacity, but he lacks real quality on the ball. Will likely retain his place against Villa at weekend.

FERNANDINHO – 7

An excellent performance. Provides us with so much quality in central midfield. Slightly fortunate with his goal, but he deserves it after such a good display.

YAYA TOURE – 5

For a man who revels in the big occasion, tonight was a very disappointing display. Seemed on the peripheral, and often relinquished his defensive responsibilities.

DAVID SILVA – 8

A massively improved performance. Was at the heart of all of our best moments, and his ability to receive the ball in close spaces is marvellous. Hopefully a sign of things to come!

RAHEEM STERLING – 7

After a fairly quiet first half, the second half showed the true qualities that he possesses. Made De Bruyne’s goal, and tormented both Stones and Coleman in the second half.

SERGIO AGUERO – 9 (Man of the Match)

The big man for the big occasion. What makes Aguero so fantastic is his never say die attitude. Always willing to run to create space for others, and his header was absolutely remarkable.

SUBS:

JESUS NAVAS – 8

Changed the game when he came on, bringing pace and genuine width to our game. Pinned Baines back for much of the second half, and played some delightful crosses in.

KEVIN DE BRUYNE – 8

A brief, but wonderful cameo appearance. Took his goal excellently, and his cross for Aguero’s winner was absolutely sublime. Hopefully his injury isn’t too serious – though it looked a bad one.

FERNANDO – N/A

No real time to mark.
